Nancy Guthrie Update

Nancy Guthrie

The Nancy Guthrie case has stayed heavy on the hearts of many because it is still missing the one answer that matters most: where is Nancy? The 84-year-old Tucson woman, mother of journalist Savannah Guthrie, has not been publicly reported found, and the case remains active.

The newest update getting attention is about a bone found near Tucson, but officials have said it is not being treated as part of a criminal case.

The New Bone Report Brought Concern Fast

A human bone was found on May 7 near North Craycroft Road and East River Road, about seven miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home in the Catalina Foothills area.

Tucson Police said the find is part of a “prehistoric anthropological investigation,” not a criminal investigation. The University of Arizona Department of Anthropology and the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner assisted with the matter.

That detail matters because any report of human remains near the search area can cause fear and confusion. In this case, the official position is clear: police have not tied the bone to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.

What Officials Have Confirmed About Nancy

The FBI says Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills on the evening of January 31, 2026.

The FBI also describes her as a vulnerable adult who has difficulty walking, has a pacemaker, and needs daily medicine for a heart condition.

Her case is being investigated by the FBI Phoenix Field Office and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. The FBI has asked anyone with information to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or send a tip through its official tip line.

Why the Doorbell Video Still Matters

One of the strongest public pieces of the case remains the video tied to Nancy’s front door. The FBI said the footage shows an armed person who appeared to tamper with the camera at her front door on the morning of her disappearance. The FBI has said it wants information that can help identify that person.

This is why officials keep asking for tips. A small detail, such as a backpack, clothing, timing, movement, or a person seen in the area, may matter more than it seems.

The FBI has described the person in the video as male, about 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build, wearing a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack.

The Reward and Public Help

The FBI has offered a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s location or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.

Earlier FBI material listed a $50,000 reward, while later FBI video and poster material show the reward at $100,000.

People also reported that Savannah Guthrie and her family offered a $1 million reward, along with a $500,000 donation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

Questions Around the Investigation

The case has also drawn attention because of public disagreement over how early parts of the investigation were handled. CBS News reported that FBI Director Kash Patel claimed the FBI was kept out of the investigation for four days.

CBS also reported that the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said an FBI task force member was at the scene the night Nancy was first reported missing.

At the same time, local officials in Arizona have pushed to remove Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos over perjury allegations tied to an unrelated matter. CBS reported that one county supervisor said the effort was not about the Guthrie investigation.

Where the Case Stands Now

The most careful way to say it is this: Nancy Guthrie remains missing, the investigation remains active, and the newest bone report has not been linked to her case by officials.

The public has been asked to share real information, not guesses, with law enforcement.

For now, the case still turns on confirmed facts, the doorbell footage, forensic work, and tips from anyone who may know what happened near Nancy Guthrie’s home on the night of January 31 into the morning of February 1, 2026.
