Some names never really fade. They just wait for the right moment to come back stronger. That is exactly what Chevrolet has done with the Corvette Grand Sport.Â
The badge is returning for 2027, and this time it arrives with a fresh V8, a wide-body look, and a clear focus on drivers who want something serious without losing the everyday appeal that made past Grand Sport models so popular.
Chevrolet is positioning the new Grand Sport as a true middle ground in the Corvette family. Officially, it blends Stingray power with the wider body, aerodynamics, and track-minded hardware associated with the Z06 formula.
That mix has always been the heart of the Grand Sport idea, and Chevrolet is leaning into that history again with the new C8 version.
The Grand Sport Formula Is Back in a Big Way
The biggest headline is under the hood. Chevrolet says the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport uses the naturally aspirated LS6 6.7L V8, rated at 535 horsepower and 520 lb.-ft. of torque.
It is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, and Chevrolet says this engine will also be used in the upcoming 2027 Stingray. On the official model page, the brand highlights the engine’s 13.0:1 compression ratio as the highest ever for a Corvette V8.
Chevrolet is also launching a second version called the Grand Sport X. This model adds an electrified front axle for all-wheel drive, bringing total output to 721 combined horsepower.
Chevrolet also says the system uses a 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery and sends 145 lb.-ft. of torque to the front wheels. In simple terms, the standard Grand Sport stays true to rear-wheel drive tradition, while the Grand Sport X adds extra grip and extra punch.
What Chevrolet Has Revealed About the New Model
The new car keeps the Grand Sport identity easy to spot. Chevrolet says it gets a sculpted wide-body shape, an integrated rear spoiler, bold side air inlets, forged aluminum wheels, heritage-inspired accents, center stripes, and fender hash marks.
Buyers will also see exclusive wheel finishes and an available Launch Edition interior with Santorini Blue details, custom stitching, embossed headrests, and a special interior plaque.
For drivers who want more track hardware, Chevrolet has confirmed several package choices for the standard Grand Sport. These include the Z52 Sport Performance Package, Carbon Fiber Aero Package, and Z52 Track Performance Package.
Chevrolet says the track package adds carbon ceramic brakes, Pilot Sport Cup 2R ultra-performance tires, quad center exhaust, and carbon fiber aero pieces. The brand has also confirmed that Grand Sport and Grand Sport X will be offered as both coupe and convertible models, with 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT trims.
Why the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Still Matters
Part of the Grand Sport appeal is history. Chevrolet traces the name back to 1963, when only five original Grand Sport race cars were built.Â
The badge was later returned in 1996, then came back again in 2010, and the most recent version arrived for the 2017 model year. That heritage matters because Chevrolet is not treating this as just another trim name. It is bringing back one of Corvette’s most respected formulas.
What makes this return interesting is how complete it already feels on paper. Chevrolet has confirmed the engine, the design direction, the model split between Grand Sport and Grand Sport X, and the planned timing.
Production at Bowling Green Assembly is set to begin in summer 2026, and Chevrolet’s official model page says availability starts in summer 2026 as well. For anyone watching the next chapter of Corvette closely, this is no small update. The Grand Sport is back, and Chevrolet is making sure it comes back with real substance.
